There has been a lingering disagreement between the government and the lecturers over the conversion of MAPOLY to a University of Science and Technology, while another state-controlled polytechnic, Ogun State Polytechnic will be established in Ipokia area of the state.
The Governor thereafter announced that MAPOLY will cease to exist by 2021 and the state will only have MAUSTECH and Ogun Poly.
The disagreement that ensued over the decision on the establishment of a new polytechnic and conversion of MAPOLY to a university has prompted the lecturers to embark on an indefinite strike even before ASUP declared a nationwide industrial action.
Students have however taken their protest to Twitter to kick against the closure of their school.
